Products....interesting

The product photography that I've done for a company (which I'm hoping will happen regularly) has been interesting. The first session I was photographing decorations for weddings - bouquets, etc and then things like coathangers, head massagers, and mannequin heads. And the 2nd session was mainly sex toys (seperate from the wedding section!). So a broad range of products they are selling, which is good for me because it keeps the work interesting. Nothing worse than photographing the same products over and over and over and over and...well you get the picture. I thought i'd post a few of the interesting images, and yes there will be a couple of the sex toys for you to see!

Food nom nom nom

Food Photography really appeals to me, i think it's beautiful. And a photographer who is very very good at it is Tim Hill, his website shows some of the beautiful work he's done http://www.timhill.co.uk/

I've done hardly any food photography, really quite scarce actually the amount i've done. But when i did do it I liked it!!

Action Photography

I do love to look at action photographs, the extreme sports ones are incredible to me. Just so exciting, of course that is the idea, and I would love to try my hand at some of the extreme sports such as, Climbing, Snowboarding, Motor Racing...sadly I havn't been able to yet. But I will!! I have been lucky enough to capture a few action shots of these extreme sports, be it only small versions. A couple of years ago (2007) it snowed so much that a few of my friends were able to get their snowboards out and make small jumps. The pictures I took are here

Alright maybe not a snowboard but still...

I have also been able to photograph my friends riding their Trials Bikes in the woods near our homes. In case you are unfamiliar with Trials Riding, it is all about stability and style rather than speed. The riders must complete a course that involves many difficult obstacles, without letting their feet touch the ground. Here are the pictures

Possibly not a safari

These photos are from last year when I visited Bristol Zoo but I have just recently looked at them again. They may not be the greatest photographs in the world but I think they are interesting. Now I loved visiting the zoo and I love seeing all the animals, always do. But you have to admit from the shots I got the "big boys" - the lion and gorilla, they don't look too excited and happy being there do they. And I'm not trying to make a statement or anything by posting this or posting my pictures. It would make me the biggest hypocrite going if i was because, like I said I enjoy going to the zoo and seeing all the animals there!! Anyway here are the pictures I got

Okay so maybe not an animal (?!?!?!) and maybe not taken by me but hey, i thought i'd post it anyway!

A beautiful, beautiful creature. Yet sad.

Showcased on Photography Blog!

So happily, my work and i have been showcased on the Fine Art Photography Update Blog. The blog features all things fine art photography related. (I know you'd probably already guessed that but I thought i'd put it anyway) I am very pleased about being showcased and am hugely grateful to Mark Fenwick for firstly being so friendly and understanding of a photographer trying his best, and for of course showcasing my work.

5 Element Art

My dad and I will at some point setup a business that will sell photography that relates to the 5 Elements in chinese philosophy - Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, Wood. These elements represent many different emotions, for example, Fire represents Joy, Water represents Gentleness. The images will be aimed at businesses/companies, courses/workshops, centres that work in the therapist and spiritual healing areas.

We setup the business last year but were neither in the right frame of mind or place to be able to fully get behind it so we have put 5 Element Art on hold, and will return to commit fully in the future.

Trial day done

So the "trail day" for product photography for a company went well last week. I was working on the pictures flat out for a couple of days after, i wanted to see how long it would take to complete them doing it like that. I discovered it took a lot longer than expected!! The products have a lot more detail and intricate little areas than ones i have done in the past.

Hey ho, i've got the pictures all done for them and am going for another session tomorrow so I'm pretty happy about that!! I forgot to order new light stands though what with wanting to get the pictures done in that way, so i have to use my silly broken ones. They do the job but it's just not what you want is it!

Botanical-in-the-garden

The first time I remember picking the camera up to take pictures simply for personal reasons and not snapping a holiday shot or anything, I went and photographed flowers in the garden. Now, I can't find those pictures just at the moment but I have over the years taken more flower and plant photographs, so I wanted to post some of them on here. As much as I love working in black and white, the colours when photographing plants and flowers is irresistible. Even if they are simply background colours, at times this is what makes the picture work. (in my view!)

Product Photography work

So the job application-type-thingy that I mentioned before which I had to sent the 5 pictures of quite boring objects to......well they really liked what I sent them (yaaaay!) so I'm going there on Wednesday for a sort of trial day. That will I hope turn into a little regular commission. I have enjoyed the product photography work I did in the past, and that was excellent experience. This is going to be different sort of products, I was told it can range from mannequin stuff to jewellery. Be interesting, I'm looking forward to it!

The stands for my lights are broken which is a pain, they still do the job for the most part but I would have preferred not to turn up with broken equipment. After I've got the trial day sorted I'll have to use the pay to get new stands I think.

Michael Pinfold on Dotty Gallery

Michael is the other photographer I have exhibited on Dotty Gallery at the moment. His work focuses predominantly with the Cornish Coastline and landscape photography. I felt that some of his work really had a beautiful fine art feel to them and I think after viewing them you will agree, these would be fantastic pieces to be hung on the wall. Portraits

Today i thought I'd post some of the portraits I've done. And yeah there are a couple of animal pictures here but they still like to have their picture taken, they have feelings too!!
