Oooh Conspiracy Theory Day!!

So without wanting to get too much up on my little battered and worn soapbox -  I used to be on Facebook, my own personal profile nothing to do with work or anything just for me to network and what not with friends and other such folk. I deactivated my profile a while ago now, to cut a long story short, because I got tired of it.
A few people have said to me, my sister included, that I should setup a Dotty Gallery profile on there. This is I should think, a good idea. I mean it will get lots of people viewing my work and seeing the name Dotty Gallery. All good, yes?!........

Well the reason I havn't done it in the past was because I had an issue with Facebooks terms and conditions, and the fact that they have the right to do whatever they want with whatever is posted on Facebook. I was mulling it over again today and decided i'd google the idea to see what others have said in the past and things. You know there are a lot of forums and articles that people post on the internet that can be extremely helpfull!! (some that aren't sure!)

Here are Facebook's Terms and Conditions when you sort of route into them: -
When you post User Content to the Site, you authorize and
direct us to make such copies thereof as we deem necessary in
order to facilitate the posting and storage of the User Content
on the Site. By posting User Content to any part of the Site, you
automatically grant, and you represent and warrant that you
have the right to grant, to the Company an irrevocable,
perpetual, non-exclusive, transferable, fully paid, worldwide
license (with the right to sublicense) to use, copy, publicly
perform, publicly display, reformat, translate, excerpt (in
whole or in part) and distribute such User Content for any
purpose on or in connection with the Site or the promotion
thereof, to prepare derivative works of, or incorporate into
other works, such User Content, and to grant and authorize
sublicenses of the foregoing.

See what I read from that is that not only do they have the right to do whatever they like with things that are posted, this right is continued even after your profile is deactivated!!

I don't I will setup a Dotty Gallery profile on Facebook then!

  1. Yes, but now you can set your privacy settings so they can't do anything. And there is really much they'd do with your stuff anyway. It's worthless to them out of context.
